Our Media Server makes it easy for us to set up blogs for individual teachers and wikis and blogs for groups of users. An individual teacher's blog may allow readers to comment on an entry, but it remains the teacher's blog (his or her entries, their comments). The hierarchy of a group wiki or blog (SMS teachers, a department, a team, a class...) is horizontal, flatter, more democratic. Every member of the group can create wiki pages, blog entries, as well as comments. What's involved?
Welcome to your wiki.
- To create a new page, click the New Page (+) button.
- To edit a page, click the Edit (pencil) button.
That's just about all there is to it: text, but also, images, audio, movies, links, tables, attachments... Because wiki pages are templated and don't require learning Web development software, it's very easy to pour content onto the web.
Wikis imply collaboration. Teachers can create this content; but, with appropriate security, so might students. The opportunity to comment or add attachments to any page provides additional support for collaboration.
